Charitable Gifts

Why exchange gifts with so many people? So many of the gifts we exchange are just trinkets, things we've picked up with no real thought about the recipient's tastes or preferences - we just give because that is what we think we are supposed to do this time of year. I heard a wonderful suggestion on the radio yesterday. Rather than exchanging gifts with someone, why not make a donation in his or her name to a favorite charity. Ask others to do the same for you. In this way, charities will recieve more needed funds, and everyone can feel good about giving. An added bonus - the gifts will also be tax-deductible.
