Personal Boxes

You're giving her a box for Christmas?
This was the question my son asked when he saw me unpacking my shopping bags. I had a selection of different shapes and sizes of paper mache "hat" boxes.
For each of my nieces (and a future daughter-in-law) I decorated and personalized a box. My son thought I was nuts, but the girls LOVED them.
How they're made...
These are really easy to make. All you need is a box, which you can get from a craft store like Michael's, Hobby Lobby, or even the craft department at Wal-Mart; some paint and/or tissue paper and glue; some photos or other decorative items (scrapbooking stickers work really well, too); and some decoupage glue (I used Mod Podge) and clear acrylic sealer.
For the background color, you can either paint with a craft paint, or glue layers of torn up tissue paper. I used both methods above. The first picture is a painted box, and the others are done with the tissue paper (hard to see the detail in the photos, but it looks really nice when it's done.)
Next, attach your photos or stickers in your desired design. Cover these with the decoupage glue, adding as many coats as needed to create a smooth surface. You might want to sand smooth after the final layer. Finish it up by spraying with the sealer.
For an added touch, you might want to add a few trinkets to the box before wrapping it up.

This box was made for one of my nieces. She had just redone her room in pink, and she absolutely loved it!
