Gifts of Food, Gifts of Love

December 8th 2007 19:22
Yummy holiday giving ideas!

Do you like to give gifts of food? Do you like to give homemade gifts? Often those are the same thing.

I love to bake. Most years I make cookies for all my friends and family. I've also made candy - which everyone loves - but I'm just never satisfied with the results.

Trying to find new ideas for loving gifts of homemade foods, I found a section on MyRecipes.com. They have an entire section devoted to holiday gift ideas!

If you're like me, you'll love this site. Check it out - there's not much time left to get those holiday gifts made. I'm so behind!!!

Enjoy all the yummies.

(After the holidays, I'll probably be posting more on Weight Loss Woman! )

Grandpa's Shaving Mug

I made this for my Dad last Christmas. It's a shaving mug with photos of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grandpa's Shaving Mug

I've seen photo mugs at different online photo processing sites, such as Snapfish.com. The problem with the ones I've seen, though, is that they only use one photo. I wanted to include 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. So, I made my own.

Since it was for a shaving mug, not a mug to drink out of, it was simple. I created a rectangle in PrintShop that would fit around a white mug. I cropped photos of each of the kids in different sizes and shapes, then layered them all over the rectangle. I printed it out, glued it to the mug, and coated with Mod Podge. After about 5 coats, I gently sanded for a smooth finish, and finished with acrylic spray sealer.

My Dad loved it!

Calendar Wall Hanging

My Mother-in-Law Expects a Calendar

One year when my kids were really little, I had them draw pictures for each month of the year (four kids, three pictures each) and I made calendars for their grandparents. In each calendar, I included family birthdays, etc. I just printed it on my home computer, and stapled it together. My mother-in-law absolutely loved it, and has come to expect a calendar for Christmas each year
