Gift for Gardener

July 11th 2009 01:53
Is that special someone in your life a gardener? A really nice gift for the gardener in your life is a personalized gardening gift basket.

Things to include: seed packets, gardening gloves, gardening tools, decorative garden markers. Basket ideas: a watering can, a pretty planter, or a nice basket.

Be creative, and make it personal. If your loved one likes flowers, include some hard to find flower seeds -- if they like growing vegetables or herbs, include that type of seeds.

Maybe include a gardening book to help him/her with new ideas.

The sky's the limit here - make it personal and make it fun. It doesn't have to be expensive, and can be a gift that your loved one will treasure and remember forever!

Simple Wedding Favors

June 26th 2009 17:46
Etiquette requires handing out some sort of favors at a wedding, but guests don't really expect anything expensive or elaborate. They really want a memento of the occasion, something to remind them of the happy couple's happy day.

Walmart.com's photo center (as well as nearly all photo processing centers) offer photo collages. Super easy to create, very inexpensive, and a fun favor for a wedding

Make Your Own Cookbook

June 25th 2009 17:42
One very simple, and usually appreciated gift is a homemade cookbook. This is a wonderful gift for just about anyone, but especially a bride-to-be, or a child who is moving out on his own.

Many different ways to do this - depending on how creative you want to be, and how much you want to spend on the gift

My brothers are MUCH older than I am. The oldest turned 50 about 3 years ago. I decided I'd send him a card a day for 50 days. I used the free e-card services that allow you to schedule delivery - very easy - each week I'd choose 7 different cards and schedule them for delivery to his inbox each day. Well - he got tired of opening the e-cards, so he didn't even see them all.

The next brother will be 50 this Friday - so I decided to do something similar for him. 50 days before his birthday, I started sending him "homemade" e-cards. I used my digital scrapbooking program to make him unique "cards." I saved each one as an image, and resized it for more suitalbe emailing. That way - when he opens his email message - the image is right there - he doesn't have to click on anything. Probelms with this option: I had to remember to send one each day (no scheduling options), I had to come up with 50 different ideas, no animation or music attached. But, he really liked the cards. I did forget a couple of times to send them on the right days, so I had to play catch up and send a few cards a couple of times. He even emailed to see if I was "ok" when I missed a couple of days in a row

Digital Scrapbook

June 17th 2009 03:22
Ok - my newest hobby is digital scrapbooking - I'm having a blast with this. I love scrapbooking, but doing it on the computer makes it so much more fun. AND - having the scrapbooks printed as photo books make awesome gifts.

I made one for my parents last year for Christmas - as well as one for my own family. I just used a collection of family photos from the year (or prior years) and made a page for each member of the family. This year, I'm making a page for specific events - family get-togethers, etc

Burlingame, CA (OPENPRESS) January 1, 2009 -- AmericanBridal.com, the Internet’s most expansive collection of unique and affordable wedding favors, touts the benefits of planning a winter holiday themed wedding. The online retailer carries a generous selection of holiday-themed wedding favors for couples shopping for their 2009 holiday-themed wedding celebration. Planning at least one year ahead can help to defray the cost of wedding favors, and gives the couple a chance to save money with discount wedding favors.

“The holidays can be an especially challenging time financially, but it’s a wise investment to set aside a kitty to find wedding favors during the post-holiday bargain shopping season,” said Shirley Tan, founder, AmericanBridal.com. “End of the year sales not only help retailers clear holiday items and prepare for new inventory, they can be great sources of savings for the wedding budget

The "Funnest" Gift Under Our Tree

December 28th 2008 19:14
I usually use this blog to discuss unique gifts I've found, and homemade gifts I've made or want to make, but I can't let the holiday season pass without discussing the funnest gift we had under our tree.

First, a little background. My kids (all teenagers) begged for an X-Box 360 this year. Since they had not been keeping up with their chores, I was relunctant to get it for them - knowing they'd do less work because they'd be playing games all the time. My husband gave in, so we got the 360 and Rockband
