A Gift To Share

A Gift You Can Share With Your Significant Other...

A Couple's Massage!

My husband turned 50 yesterday, and for his birthday, I treated him to a night in Hot Springs, Arkansas - complete with a couple's massage.

We're not the type of people who get massages frequently. In fact, we've each only had one (a professional one, that is) once. So this was a real treat. I have to say, the couple's massage was so much better than individual ones. For one thing, it was longer. And, we were together in the same room, each getting a massage at the same time.

If you're looking for a treat for your hubby, boyfriend, whatever - this one has the bonus of you getting the treat as well! Most spas, all over, offer this type of treatment, so just look for a place that has awesome massages, and I'll bet they offer them for couples as well.

Homecoming Mum

October 4th 2008 04:20
A Texas Tradition

Every year for homecoming, junior high and high school students across Texas are given homecoming mums. The younger students usually receive them from their moms, while older students get them from their dates (or still sometimes from mom.)

The guys get them too, though usually with a garter attached and worn on the arm. The ribbons are usually a little shorter on the guys' version.

Garter Homecoming Mum
For the guys, a garter is attached and the ribbons are shorter.

Ordering one of these elaborate spectacles from a florist can run into big $$$$, but they are pretty simple to make, for about half the cost (I spent a little over $40 for the materials to make two of them.) The supplies include a round board (like you would use for any corsage), a 'mum', and lots of ribbons. Add a few trinkets, and you're done. Traditionally you use one mum for a freshman or younger, two for a sophomore, three for a junior or senior. To make a senior mum stand out, you use silver and white ribbons instead of school colors. In our hometown, though, most seniors have a combination of school colors and the silver and white. These are really fun to make, and the kids really get a kick out of them.

I realize it's almost too late, but there are some really awesome Father's Day gift ideas at gifts.com.

One I absolutely love, but won't work for my honey (or my dad either) is a set of t-shirts for a dad and son. The dad shirt says "Big Guy" and the son shirt says "Little Guy" - they are so cute. Our "little" guys are bigger than their dad now, so that won't work for us

If you’re one of those last minute shoppers, you might be spending the next few days out looking for holiday gifts. Just about anyone would be grateful for good old-fashioned skin care products but, this year, opt for natural skin care that will really make a difference. In fact, you can even make them yourself with one ingredient you’re sure to have around – cranberries. Here are a few ideas you can cook up in your kitchen.

Why are skin care products with cranberries such a great gift? While cranberries aren’t quite a superfood, their high phytonutrients and antioxidant content makes them an ideal ingredient for skin care products. They help prevent bacterial build up in the body and on the skin, and the antioxidants fight free radicals – one of the major causes of aging. Getting a free radical treatment with these recipes will be like going to the spa
