Home Made Herbal Bath Salts

June 30th 2009 22:07
This makes a wonderful gift for your best friend, sister, daughter or mother. (Or any special someone in your life, really.)

Put the following ingredients in your food processor:
2 cups sea salt
2 cups baking soda
1 cup oatmeal or oat bran
1 tablespoon of your favorite dried/ground herbs

Mix it all up in the food processor, then put into pretty jars with stopper tops or screw-on lids. Add a scoop if you can find a nice one. Include instructions, and tie with a pretty bow (so it looks nice sitting by the tub.)

Instructions:
Add 2 tablespoons (or so) to warm running bath water for a nice relaxing soak.

Herb suggestions: chamomille, mint, and lavender are all known for relaxing properties.

Photo Box

I had seen these on some photo processing sites, and I thought, "I could make that!"

Wasn't difficult, just used a photo printed on my own printer, and ModPodge as a sealer.

I purchased a "natural" box at a craft store, and stained it. Once the stain was set, I used ModPodge to glue the photo to the box, and added about six coats, allowing each to dry before adding another. Finally, I used a fine grain sandpaper to smooth the finish, and topped it off with an acrylic sealer.

Good gift for just about anyone. Photo can be a loved one, or a photo of a special event, like the one shown.

Calendar Wall Hanging

My Mother-in-Law Expects a Calendar

One year when my kids were really little, I had them draw pictures for each month of the year (four kids, three pictures each) and I made calendars for their grandparents. In each calendar, I included family birthdays, etc. I just printed it on my home computer, and stapled it together. My mother-in-law absolutely loved it, and has come to expect a calendar for Christmas each year
