Simple Wedding Favors

June 26th 2009 17:46
Etiquette requires handing out some sort of favors at a wedding, but guests don't really expect anything expensive or elaborate. They really want a memento of the occasion, something to remind them of the happy couple's happy day.

Walmart.com's photo center (as well as nearly all photo processing centers) offer photo collages. Super easy to create, very inexpensive, and a fun favor for a wedding.

All you have to do is select an assortment of photos of the happy couple and then upload them to an album. Choose the photo collage and select the photos you want to include.

We did these for my son's upcoming wedding in a variety of colored backgrounds (they have a multi-colored theme) and a variety of arrangements. They only cost about 10˘ a piece and will be a really neat favor for the wedding guests.

Happy gifting!

Make Your Own Cookbook

June 25th 2009 17:42
One very simple, and usually appreciated gift is a homemade cookbook. This is a wonderful gift for just about anyone, but especially a bride-to-be, or a child who is moving out on his own.

Many different ways to do this - depending on how creative you want to be, and how much you want to spend on the gift.

I keep my most used recipes on index cards in a file box. This is the easiest way for me to find them when I need them. To give a gift this way, simply buy some blank index cards and a file box they'll fit in. Either write down your favorite recipes (giving credit where it is due, of course) or print them from your computer. Be sure to include blank cards as well, so the recipient can add to the collection. You can decorate the box in any number of creative ways.

Another fun way to make a cookbook is to create a "photo book" in a scrapbooking or other graphic format and have it printed. Of course, this would be much more expensive. You could alternatively print out the pages yourself and insert them into a scrapbook or photo album pages. This would also allow for the recipient to add to the collection.

You could host a pot-luck party and ask everyone to bring the recipe of the dish brought. Then you could create a cookbook from the collection of recipes and present them to each of the people who had attended the party, or just to the guest of honor (this is a really neat bridal shower!)

There are so many different ways to do cookbooks as gifts, I can't possibly list them all here - use your imagination and I'm sure you can come up with something wonderful! (Post ideas here to share with others.)

Happy gifting!

My brothers are MUCH older than I am. The oldest turned 50 about 3 years ago. I decided I'd send him a card a day for 50 days. I used the free e-card services that allow you to schedule delivery - very easy - each week I'd choose 7 different cards and schedule them for delivery to his inbox each day. Well - he got tired of opening the e-cards, so he didn't even see them all.

The next brother will be 50 this Friday - so I decided to do something similar for him. 50 days before his birthday, I started sending him "homemade" e-cards. I used my digital scrapbooking program to make him unique "cards." I saved each one as an image, and resized it for more suitalbe emailing. That way - when he opens his email message - the image is right there - he doesn't have to click on anything. Probelms with this option: I had to remember to send one each day (no scheduling options), I had to come up with 50 different ideas, no animation or music attached. But, he really liked the cards. I did forget a couple of times to send them on the right days, so I had to play catch up and send a few cards a couple of times. He even emailed to see if I was "ok" when I missed a couple of days in a row

Digital Scrapbook

June 17th 2009 03:22
Ok - my newest hobby is digital scrapbooking - I'm having a blast with this. I love scrapbooking, but doing it on the computer makes it so much more fun. AND - having the scrapbooks printed as photo books make awesome gifts.

I made one for my parents last year for Christmas - as well as one for my own family. I just used a collection of family photos from the year (or prior years) and made a page for each member of the family. This year, I'm making a page for specific events - family get-togethers, etc

If you’re one of those last minute shoppers, you might be spending the next few days out looking for holiday gifts. Just about anyone would be grateful for good old-fashioned skin care products but, this year, opt for natural skin care that will really make a difference. In fact, you can even make them yourself with one ingredient you’re sure to have around – cranberries. Here are a few ideas you can cook up in your kitchen.

Why are skin care products with cranberries such a great gift? While cranberries aren’t quite a superfood, their high phytonutrients and antioxidant content makes them an ideal ingredient for skin care products. They help prevent bacterial build up in the body and on the skin, and the antioxidants fight free radicals – one of the major causes of aging. Getting a free radical treatment with these recipes will be like going to the spa

I had seen these on some photo processing sites, and I thought, "I could make that!"

Wasn't difficult, just used a photo printed on my own printer, and ModPodge as a sealer
