Skin Care Gifts You Can Make in Your Own Kitchen – And They’re Fast (LINK)

January 22nd 2008 00:08
If you’re one of those last minute shoppers, you might be spending the next few days out looking for holiday gifts. Just about anyone would be grateful for good old-fashioned skin care products but, this year, opt for natural skin care that will really make a difference. In fact, you can even make them yourself with one ingredient you’re sure to have around – cranberries. Here are a few ideas you can cook up in your kitchen.

Why are skin care products with cranberries such a great gift? While cranberries aren’t quite a superfood, their high phytonutrients and antioxidant content makes them an ideal ingredient for skin care products. They help prevent bacterial build up in the body and on the skin, and the antioxidants fight free radicals – one of the major causes of aging. Getting a free radical treatment with these recipes will be like going to the spa.

* Begin your cranberry spa with a good cleansing: Steep one tablespoon of crushed savory leaves in a ½ cup of boiling water for about fifteen minutes, and strain. Add a ½ cup of cranberries, puree them in the blender first, and mix. To clean your face, soak a few cotton pads, press them on your face (don’t get it in your eyes) and relax for five minutes, then rinse with warm water.

* Next, exfoliate: Combine a ½ cup of cranberries, a ¼ cup of natural organic sugar and a ¼ cup of coconut oil in a blender with about 2 tablespoons of oatmeal. Rub on the skin gently, and rinse off with warm water.

* Now that you face is clean, fresh and au naturel, apply a shielding lotion to keep it that way. A good shielding lotion bonds with the surface layer of the skin to form a protective layer than locks in moisture and keeps out chemicals. Sorry, you can’t make this one yourself – but anyone will be very happy to receive it as a skin care gift they’ll use all year.

* For a little color try cranberry lip balm: Combine a drop of Vitamin E, a teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of sweet almond and 10 fresh cranberries. Bring just to a boil in a double broiler, stirring frequently and crushing the cranberries. Let it cool for a few minutes, strain to remove the cranberry pieces, and continue to cool to room temperature.

To give these homemade products as a gift, buy a few little pretty bottles and labels or make labels on your computer. Give them a fancy name, include instructions and, voila, you’ve got an unusual gift that any woman will appreciate. But don’t forget the shielding lotion. A small bottle will last much longer than your homemade recipes, and will make their skin look better than any other skin care product under the tree.

interesting tips - that's a lot of cranberry, though!
